Public Transportation
Georgetown University is accessible by public transit using Metrobus, Metrorail, and the DC Circulator bus. Visit the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) website to plan your trip using Metrobus or Metrorail or plan your trip using Google Maps Transit Directions.
SmartBenefits Program
Georgetown employees who use Metrobus and Metrorail can receive pre-tax transit benefits by enrolling in SmartBenefits. Employees can elect to deduct funds from their paycheck before taxes and add them to their SmarTrip card. After enrolling, the funds will be available to claim the 1st of each month and any unused benefits will be rolled over to the next month.
To enroll, waive, or make changes to your SmartBenefits, complete the SmartBenefits Transit Payroll Deduction form. Changes are only permitted once per calendar year. Smart Benefits allows for minimum deduction of $20 and a maximum deduction of $315.

Employees can not sign up for both parking and SmartBenefits.

- Monthly Unlimited Pass – This option saves you money on your commute via metrobus or metrorail.
- Register your SmarTrip card – Your SmartTrip card should be registered in the event it is lost, stolen. The same would apply if it is a digital card and your phone is lost, stolen or damaged.
Transit – Traveling via metrobus or metrorail. It can also be used towards MARC, VRE and MTA
Transit Parking – Parking at metrorail stations.
Bus
Several public buses service Georgetown University, Medstar Georgetown University Hospital, and the Georgetown neighborhood.

Metrorail
While there is not a Metrorail station in Georgetown, the free university GUTS shuttles connect Georgetown University with the Dupont Circle metro station (Red Line) via the Dupont Circle route and the Rosslyn metro station (Blue, Orange, and Silver Lines) via the Rosslyn route.
