Freedom 250 Grand Prix Race Impacts

Road Closures

Throughout the weekend, road closures related to the Freedom 250 Grand Prix will have significant impacts for faculty, staff, students and their families. Please review the following information closely and make a plan for any days you must be on campus or travel in and around the DC area between Thursday, Aug. 20, and Sunday, Aug. 23.

GUTS Route Updates

From Thursday, Aug. 20, through Sunday, Aug. 23, only the following Georgetown University Transportation Shuttle (GUTS) routes will be available:

Due to road closures in and around downtown DC, the Dupont Circle, Capitol Campus, Gallery Place, Union Station and 55 H Street shuttle routes will not operate Thursday, Aug. 20, through Sunday, Aug. 23. To help alleviate the expected increased demand of the Rosslyn and Arlington routes, the shuttles will run at increased frequency. Additionally, community members can take advantage of our temporary shuttle to and from the Tenleytown-AU Metro Station; shuttles will run from this stop every twenty minutes. More information on schedules and routes throughout the weekend will be posted to the Office of Transportation Management’s website.

Georgetown community members can also view GUTS shuttle real-time location information on the web, or through the BusWhere for Shuttles app, using access code “GEORGETOWN” upon download (available via the Apple Store or Google Play Store).

Finally, we encourage community members to sign up for notifications from AlertDC to be informed about additional traffic advisories as they become available.

Parking at the Capitol Campus

The garages at McDonough Hall, Gewirz Residence Hall and 500 1st St. NW will be inaccessible Thursday, Aug. 20, through Sunday, Aug. 23, due to road closures. Registered campus parkers will be redirected to the 111 Mass Ave. Garage, where valet parking will be used to help accommodate the redirected vehicles. If you are a faculty or staff campus parker who does not need to be on campus during this time period, please consult with your supervisor to discuss teleworking on these days, if possible.

We recognize the challenges these updates pose to our community in commuting to, from and between campuses. Please allow for extra travel time throughout move-in weekend, and thank you for your patience and understanding.
