Georgetown University supports bicycling as a key component of our sustainable transportation mix, and has been recognized by the League of American Bicyclists as a Bicycle Friendly University. Biking to campus saves money, supports a healthy lifestyle, uses fewer resources, and promotes a healthier planet. Georgetown University provides many resources for faculty, staff, students, and visitors to commute to campus by bike.
FINDING A ROUTE
Georgetown University is located in one of the most bikeable cities in the United States and is connected to the wider DC metro area by a network of trails and on-street bike routes.
Ride the City DC is an online route finding service which allows you to select a route from anywhere in the region based on your level of comfort on the streets. The map below also highlights bicycle access points to the University’s main campus and medical center.

BICYCLE REGISTRATION, SAFETY, AND SECURITY
The Georgetown University Police Department (GUPD) offers free bicycle registration for students, faculty, and staff. Georgetown highly recommends registering your bike as it allows GUPD to contact you if your bike is impounded or stolen and recovered, as well as cut your lock if it breaks or you lose your key. Click here to register your bike with GUPD.
Always lock your bike to a bike rack using a U-Lock. Please do not lock your bike to trees, fences, ADA ramps, handrails, or lamp posts. Discounted U-Locks can be purchased from GUPD, located in Village C West. Learn more here.
Georgetown’s campus is very compact and has a high volume of pedestrian traffic. When riding on campus, please remember to share the road by yielding to pedestrians and obeying posted speed limits and stop signs.
If you have any questions about bicycle safety or security on campus, please reach out to Sgt. Michael Bunker.
BIKES AND GUTS BUSES
The University GUTS buses feature bike racks on the front of each bus, giving bike commuters more options for connecting to campus from regional bike routes.
